Rock-bottom prices May–October — at peak Andaman monsoon
Krabi's cheapest stretch is May through October — the southwestern monsoon. Beach resorts in Ao Nang and Railay drop 40–60% from peak Christmas / New Year prices. Mid-range hotels at year-round lows. Boat tour prices halve (when they run). Some Railay-area resorts close entirely; the larger Ao Nang properties discount aggressively.
For most travelers the smart play is finding the windows where prices are still meaningfully off-peak but the weather works.
The two smartest price-to-weather windows
- Mid-November — SW monsoon ending, dry season just opening, before the December Christmas/NYE price spike. Boat trips reliable again, rock climbing at Railay back to normal. Hotels at 30% below Dec prices.
- Late April — last reliably dry weeks before the May monsoon opens. Prices already softening from Feb–March peak. Beach water at its warmest. Worth doing if you can grab the late-April window.
What "cheap" actually looks like in Krabi
- Ao Nang beachfront 4-star — Jan $130–220, Sep $60–110 (~50% off)
- Mid-range Ao Nang town — Jan $50–90, Sep $25–50 (~50% off)
- Railay beach hotel — Jan $180–300, Sep $90–150 (~50% off)
- Phi Phi day boat trip — Jan $40–60, Sep $25–40 (cancels often)
- Hong Islands tour — Jan $35–55, Sep $20–35
- Beach restaurant Ao Nang — $8–18 per person
- Rock climbing course (full day, Railay) — $60–90 (no real seasonality, but doesn't run in heaviest rain)
Avoid the price spikes
- Christmas + New Year (Dec 22 – Jan 5) — Western tourist surge combined with Andaman peak dry season. Beach resort rates can double.
- Chinese New Year (late January or February) — Chinese tourist surge to Phi Phi. Day-boat capacity tight.
- Songkran (April 13–15) — Smaller impact than mainland but flight + ferry prices spike.
The honest cheapest-time verdict
If you accept the monsoon: September. Year-round-low everything. Plan flexibility for cancelled boat trips; backup activities to Krabi town, Tiger Cave Temple, Khlong Thom hot springs.
If you want best value AND workable weather: mid-November or late April. The full positive picture is in our best time to visit Krabi guide.

Thailand vs Nearby Destinations
vs Koh Samui
Opposite monsoon seasons — Krabi (Andaman) wet May–November, Koh Samui (Gulf) wet October–December. Pick Krabi for limestone karsts, rock climbing, Phi Phi day trips. Pick Koh Samui for boutique hotels, calmer beaches, easier connections to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. If November dates are locked, choose Samui.
vs Phuket
Same monsoon side, different vibes. Phuket is bigger, more developed, has more flight connections and bigger hotels. Krabi is quieter, more dramatic scenery (limestone karsts), and a better launchpad for Phi Phi/Koh Lanta. Pick Phuket for variety + nightlife; pick Krabi for nature + climbing + boats.
