Who we are
Atlas Ranger publishes travel-timing guides and tools at atlasranger.com. For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete your data, email [email protected].
Reading the site
You can read every guide and use every tool without giving us your name, your email, or any account. We ask for personal details in exactly two places, and only when you choose to fill them in: the newsletter and the aurora alerts.
The newsletter
When you submit the form we email you the travel timing calendar straight away, and add your address to the list. The email includes a confirmation link you can click to double-confirm, but nothing is withheld if you don't.
What we store:
- Your email address.
- A short tag recording which page you signed up from, for example
dest:hawaii:best-time, so the emails we send match what you were reading. - The date and time you signed up, the IP address you signed up from, and the exact sentence shown under the form. That is our record that you asked for these emails; it is evidence of consent, not a profile of you.
- Your browser's user-agent string, which helps us spot bulk spam signups.
- The date you unsubscribed, if you do.
We check the address before sending: obvious typos are flagged back to you, throwaway inbox services are declined, and we confirm the domain can receive mail at all. If an address hard-bounces or is reported as spam, we stop emailing it and mark it in our records.
Every email has an unsubscribe link, and your mail app's own unsubscribe button works too. When you unsubscribe we keep the record, marked as unsubscribed, so a later signup can't quietly put you back on the list. Ask us and we will delete it outright.
Aurora alerts
If you subscribe to aurora alerts, we store your email address together with the coordinates and place name you chose, because an alert is specific to a location. That location comes from what you pick or allow in your browser; we do not track where you are the rest of the time. The same unsubscribe and deletion options apply.
Analytics and measurement
On the live site we use two measurement tools, both of which set cookies or store an identifier in your browser:
- Google Analytics 4 — page views, which pages lead to a signup, and which outbound partner links get clicked. We do not send your email address to it.
- Microsoft Clarity — aggregate heatmaps and session replays of how pages are used, so we can see where a layout confuses people. Clarity masks text input by default.
Both providers process data on their own terms: Google and Microsoft. You can block both with a tracker-blocking extension or your browser's privacy settings, and the site will work normally.
Affiliate links
Some links to hotels, flights and tours are affiliate links. Following one hands you to the partner's own site, which usually sets a cookie so any booking is credited to us. Their privacy policy governs what happens there. See our affiliate disclosure for the commercial side of this.
Hosting, security and server logs
The site runs on Vercel and sits behind Cloudflare, with subscriber records in a Turso database. Those providers keep standard server and security logs, which include IP addresses, for fraud prevention, abuse blocking and uptime. Our newsletter email is sent through Resend. We also record the browser user-agent string with a subscription, so we can spot bulk spam signups.
Your choices
Email [email protected] and we will, within 30 days: tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send you a copy. If you are in the UK, EU, or a US state with its own privacy law, those rights apply to you by law; we extend the same handling to everyone. We do not sell your personal information.
Children
This site is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their details; if you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will remove the record.
Changes to this policy
When what we collect changes, we update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to the newsletter will also be announced in the newsletter itself.
