When Osaka hotels cost the most

Osaka hotels fill up and cost most in cherry-blossom season (late March and early April, when Osaka Castle Park is in bloom), over Golden Week (April 29 to May 5), Obon in mid-August and the New Year holiday. The Tenjin Matsuri on July 24 and 25 is one of Japan's biggest festivals, and the hotels near Universal Studios are busiest during its Halloween season from September to November.

The cheapest months are January, February and June. November is the best-value peak: autumn colors and dry weather without the spring rush. Questions people ask

What is the best area to stay in Osaka?

For a first trip, Namba and Dotonbori: the food streets, Shinsaibashi-suji and Kuromon Market are on foot, and the Rapi:t runs direct to Kansai Airport. Umeda is better if you plan day trips to Kyoto, Tennoji is the best value, and the Universal Studios area suits families going to the park.

Is it better to stay in Namba or Umeda?

Namba for food, nightlife and a direct airport train. Umeda for day trips and onward travel: Kyoto is about 30 minutes away on direct JR trains and Shin-Osaka, for the bullet train, is one stop. The two are about 8 minutes apart on the Midosuji line, so either works for seeing both.

Where should I stay in Osaka to visit Kyoto?

Umeda. JR special rapid trains from Osaka Station reach Kyoto in about 30 minutes. Tennoji also has direct Haruka trains to Kyoto, at about 45 minutes, and lower hotel prices.

Where should I stay in Osaka for Universal Studios?

The hotels around Universal City Station are a 3 to 6 minute walk from the gates. If you only spend one day at the park, Namba or Umeda keeps you closer to everything else; the park is roughly 20 to 30 minutes away by train.

Which area of Osaka is closest to Kansai Airport?

Tennoji and Namba. The JR Haruka reaches Tennoji in about 35 minutes, and the Nankai Rapi:t reaches Namba in about 40, both without changing trains.

Should I stay in Osaka or Kyoto?

Osaka for food, evenings out, a wider choice of hotels and better prices; Kyoto for walking to temples early in the morning. They are about 30 minutes apart by train, so many travelers stay in one and visit the other.
