Year-round-low prices Sep–Oct — at flooding risk
Hoi An's cheapest stretch is September through October — the typhoon and Old-Town flooding window. Boutique hotels in the Old Town drop 40–50% from peak Feb–April. Beach hotels in An Bang and Cua Dai drop similarly. Tailors and custom-clothing shops run aggressive promotions to fill quiet weeks.
The catch is the actual flood risk — see our worst-time guide for what an October flood actually looks like.
The two smartest price-to-weather windows
- Late August — last reliably dry weeks before the September wet stretch. Prices already softening from peak. Old Town accessible, river tours running, lantern nights happening as normal.
- Early March — dry season established, peak Feb prices coming down before April–May busy stretch. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, river calm. Tailors less booked (faster custom-tailoring turnaround).
What "cheap" actually looks like in Hoi An
- Boutique Old Town hotel — Mar $70–130, Sep $35–70 (~50% off)
- An Bang beach mid-range — Mar $90–160, Sep $50–95 (~40% off)
- Tailored suit (custom) — $150–300 (no real seasonality, but quieter season = faster turnaround + more attention)
- Cao lầu / mì Quảng street meal — $1.50–3 (no real seasonality)
- Sit-down restaurant Old Town — $8–18 per person
- Lantern boat ride — $4–8 (no seasonality, doesn't run during floods)
Tet trap (late January / early February)
Tet pushes Hoi An prices up briefly — many travelers don't realize Hoi An is a major domestic-tourist Tet destination because of the lantern atmosphere. Hotels in the Old Town can spike 30–50% for the Tet week. Push your trip to mid-February if budget matters.
The honest cheapest-time verdict
If you accept the flood risk: September. Year-round-low pricing. Old Town usually still accessible (heavy flooding is more an October pattern).
If you want best value AND no flood risk: late August or early March. The full positive picture is in our best time to visit Hoi An guide.
